Creating Reels

In the Summer Camps I was given the opportunity to work with the participants and film content for social media. My supervisor and I believed it was a good idea to film interviews with the children.

Therefore, I came up with questions to ask in each Summer Camp - adjusted to each theme - and then edited the videos into reels.

I made sure to ask in each Summer Camp what their favourite word is and what they enjoyed the most in the camp, so that I was able to turn these into reels featuring all Summer Camps participants.

Filming the Interviews

First, I would film the interviews with the children that wanted to. I made sure to film vertical so that the videos are in the right format for a reel. The questions I asked were:

1. What is your name & age?

2. What was your favourite part about Summer Camp?

3. What is your favourite word?

Then I asked questions specifically adjusted to each camp:

What is a comic?/ What do you like about fiction writing?/ What do you like about playwriting and the theatre?

Editing - Thumbnail

For the first page of the reel I either used the cover of the booklets the children received once completing the camp or I designed a new one according to the video's theme such as as using the scrabble letters for "What is your favourite word?".

Editing - Cutting videos

I uploaded the videos to Canva and then added them to the video with a reduced version of the thumbnail as the background. I made sure to only include the most essential information and keep the reels as short as possible.

I also added music but lowered the volume so it wouldn't override the children's voices.

The background music was available through Canva.

Editing - Accessibility

To make the video as accessible as possible I added the name and age of the children and the subtitles of what they were saying.

Editing - Last page

At the end, I always included the Fighting Words logo as the final frame of the videos so that people who do not follow Fighting Words know which organisation it is.
